What is an EEPROM?
EEPROM stands for Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory. It keeps its data when the battery is disconnected, which is why car makers use it to store things a module must never forget.
That data can include the vehicle's immobiliser and key information, the VIN, coding for the car's options, and configuration for the dashboard, body control and airbag systems.
If the data is corrupted, or a module is swapped without it, the car may not start, may show warning lights, or may not recognise its keys.
Modules we work with
- Engine control units (ECU)
- Immobiliser modules
- Instrument clusters
- Body control modules (BSI/BCM)
- Airbag (SRS) modules
Read and back up module data
We read the EEPROM from the module, directly or on the bench, and save a backup before any work starts, so the original data is never lost.
Keys from immobiliser data
When all keys are lost, the immobiliser data can be read to produce a working transponder and program new keys to the car.
Replacement modules
A second-hand or replacement module can be matched to your car by transferring the original data, so it works with your existing keys and immobiliser.
Repair corrupted data
Where a module has lost or scrambled its data, we can restore it from a backup or rebuild the configuration so the module works again.
